‘Il trittico’, ‘Alexina B’, Susanna Mälkki and Calixto Bieito, criticism awards in Catalonia

The production of Puccini's Il trittico that the Liceu put on stage has been recognized as the best show of the past season by the opera critics of Catalonia convened every year by the Amics del Liceu association. And Susanna Mälkki takes the award for musical direction and Lise Davidsen for best female voice for this same title. In this 29th edition relating to the 2022-23 academic year, critics have also awarded Calixto Bieito for his stage direction of L'incoronazione di Poppea by Monteverdi, also from the Liceu.

Among the singers, Pene Pati takes the award in the male category for Manon, at the Gran Teatre. Best new singer is soprano Natalia Labourdette for L’incoronazione, while countertenor Franco Fagioli is awarded in recital or concert for his Ariodante at the Palau de la Música. The jury's special award goes to Alexina B., by Raquel García-Tomàs, as the best absolute premiere, along with La gata perduda, as the sociocultural bet of the Liceu in the Raval. The late critic Roger Alier also receives a special mention from the jury “in recognition of his career.”
