Hundreds of taxi drivers pay tribute in Barcelona to the driver who died in an argument

This Wednesday, hundreds of taxi drivers from the metropolitan area of Barcelona concentrated their vehicles on Gran Via and a good part of Passeig de Gràcia for a couple of hours to pay tribute to the colleague who died this Sunday. The concentration was accompanied by a strike in the sector for a couple of hours, from ten to twelve in the morning.

The vast majority of taxi drivers and radio stations associations in the Barcelona metropolitan area supported these initiatives. Rarely has a taxi driver protest been so silent. This time instead of setting off firecrackers they let yellow and black balloons fly.

The death of Carlos, 53, as a result of the fall he suffered days before during a traffic argument with a motorist, shocked the union, and also altered many spirits. Alberto Álvarez, alias Tito, from Élite Taxi, the main entity in the sector in the metropolitan area, detailed during the rally that this group will appear in the case as a private accusation, will request a murder sentence for the accused and will also demand provisional imprisonment. “When you hit someone there has to be some kind of intentionality.”

In any case, Álvarez also stressed that this death is not the product of a security problem, but of tension. “Every day there is less space in the city. They don't stop doing construction and cutting streets. People have to calm down. “In a traffic argument, two lives can be ruined.”
