How to modify the draft and file the tax return without errors the first time

Any error when filing your income tax return can be expensive. For this reason, many choose to leave the process in the hands of professionals or the Tax Agency itself, which helps those who request it in advance to prepare the declaration by telephone or in person. However, if the taxpayer decides to file the return on his own, he must learn to modify the draft correctly, if necessary, before confirming it.

To do this, you must access the "Draft-declaration processing service" through Renta Web. To be able to enter the Treasury website, you will have to choose one of these three systems: the electronic certificate or electronic DNI, the cl@ve PIN - a code that the Tax Agency sends to the mobile phone - or the reference number - which is obtained from through the Tax Agency website.

Once the system is accessed, it is possible to enter the “Draft-WEB Income Declaration” and begin reviewing the document. In this sense, it is necessary to review all personal data, income, applicable deductions and any other relevant information. "It is common to find errors or outdated data," they warn from Taxdown. From then on, you must click on "continue session" if you want to continue with the declaration or press "New declaration" to start from scratch.

The platform allows you to modify personal data easily, although you have to be careful when including deductions or income. In this sense, it is recommended to have the necessary documents to justify these changes, such as withholding certificates, donations or rental income, among others. The last step will be to confirm the draft.

If after confirming the draft the taxpayer realizes that there is erroneous information or that some income or deduction is missing, it is possible to correct it. To do this, you must enter the Tax Agency portal again and access "More procedures on the website". It must be taken into account, however, that if the error is in favor of the taxpayer, he or she must submit a complementary declaration. And if, on the contrary, it harms him, he will have to rectify it in box 127, since it is possible to modify data on the declaration without having to start from scratch again. If this is the case, the taxpayer must indicate that he wants to modify a declaration already submitted, for which the Treasury will request his digital identification. Therefore, it will be necessary to ratify the previous settlement and present a complementary declaration.
