In this comparison of images, all captured in the month of October from 2020 to 2023, we can see in The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia how the appearance of the Sau reservoir, in Osona, has evolved with (and without) autumns of drought .

Currently, the Sau reservoir is at 16% of its capacity, when last year it was at 24%, but the average for the last five years is 91%.

These differences can be seen in the images. That of October 2021, with the church of Sant Romà practically submerged in the waters, has nothing to do with those of October 2022 or this 2023.

In a way it is as if the reservoir were warning us that the drought is here to stay and that seeing the reservoir looking fuller is perhaps already an image that belongs to the past.

The Sau reservoir is part of a system of three reservoirs (along with those of Susqueda and Pasteral) that joins the regions of Osona, in the province of Barcelona, and La Selva, in the province of Girona. All of them are currently affected by the lack of water flow.

The reservoir, inaugurated in 1962, covered the town of Sant Romà de Sau, the remains of which, especially the temple's bell tower, are visible when the level of the dammed water is low, such as in times of drought like the one we are experiencing this year. .
