Hereu believes that Collboni puts Barcelona on the map after years of independence and populism

The former mayor of Barcelona, Jordi Hereu, has assured this morning that the new municipal team of the city with Jaume Collboni at the head will allow the Catalan capital to recover its role in Spain and in Europe after years of being "blurred". "The decade of the independence process plus left-wing populism did not sit well with the city," he said during his speech at the APIE seminar at the UIMP in Santander where he gave a conference on Hispasat, the satellite company that presides.

The former mayor has trusted that the municipal government team will overcome these two elements of independence and populism that -in his opinion- have harmed the city. He has also maintained that the city will move away from the "dogmatism" that he believes has occurred in recent years. Hereu is the last mayor of the PSC in Barcelona before Collboni. After him, for four years he was mayor Xavier Trias (Junts) and eight more Ada Colau (Comuns).

In his opinion, Collboni represents a more open, diverse and cosmopolitan government. According to Hereu, Barcelona must be talked about again so that it can attract investment, entrepreneurial activity and can "expand its potential".

The former politician has opined that in recent years the city "has undergone a stress test" making a comparison with the analyzes that banks must pass to verify their solvency and strength. Looking ahead to the coming months, Hereu has said that Collboni will have to rely on "dialogue" with other forces to move forward.

Regarding the act of voting for the mayor on Saturday at the Saló de Cent in Barcelona, the former mayor highlighted the "suspense until the last moment" of who would be elected.
