Héctor Gómez: from former director of Turespaña to new Minister of Industry

The new Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Héctor Gómez, knows this department well and his predecessor in office, Reyes Maroto, because in the first two years of the Pedro Sánchez government he was director of Turespaña.

Héctor Gómez Hernández (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 1978), graduated in Tourism, graduated in Labor Sciences and graduated in Law, returns to the ministry after passing through the Congress of Deputies, where until now he chaired the Constitutional Commission since September of the year past.

He began his career in public life in local politics, where he was a councilor for the Guía de Isora City Council. Later he was a deputy in the Canary Islands Parliament between 2015 and 2018, and from there he became director of Turespaña.

Throughout this last legislature, he has been a spokesman for the Foreign Affairs Committee of Congress and a member of various committees such as the Budget and Defense Committee.

In the announcement of his appointment this Monday in Moncloa, President Pedro Sánchez stressed that Gómez knows the ministry well, that he has been part of Reyes Maroto's first team and also highlighted his last stage as president of the Constitutional Commission of the Lower House .
