Global Omnium and Valencian town councils achieve 15.5 million euros from the water grant

The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge has awarded the Global Omnium Group two of the projects that it presented to the first call of the Water Digitalization Perte. The total amount of aid obtained by the two projects is 15.5 million euros, of the 200 that the call has.

Both projects have an execution period of 24 months, with the start date scheduled for January 2024, have a total budget of more than 27.8 million euros and will directly benefit a population close to 2 million population.

The first is "Comprehensive digitization of the water cycle in the metropolitan area of Valencia" and to which 7.6 million euros have been allocated. Named SHINE-AMV, it has obtained the second highest rating of all the projects presented.

The initiative is led by Aguas de Valencia and focuses on the digitalization of the integral water cycle in the Metropolitan Area of Valencia, with a global vision of the entire cycle as it acts both in the water collection and treatment infrastructures, high water transportation systems, urban drinking water supply and sanitation networks and infrastructure, as well as general collector systems and water purification stations, all systems being interconnected with each other, but managed by different operators and administrations.

In total, seven administrations (València, Mislata, Burjassot, Rafelbunyol and Bonrepòs i Mirambell, EMSHI and EPSAR) and two mixed companies (Emivasa and Emimet) and two private companies (Global Omnium Inversiones and Aguas de Valencia) participate, which, they explain, It represents "a clear example of the will of all agents to improve water governance" and also improve the efficiency of the service through digitalization through public-private collaboration.

The second is the DigitAMED project, which has 7.9 million euros for digitalization in coastal municipalities. The seven municipalities that are part of this project have a considerable seasonal population, doubling in the months of July and August, and due to their geographical location, they are extremely vulnerable to the adverse climatic effects derived from climate change, such as urban flooding caused by due to DANA or risks of shortages derived from drought. The initiative aims to address the challenges posed by these events through greater knowledge of the systems that their digitalization will provide.

The seven municipalities that participate in this initiative are Gandia, Sagunto, Calp, Altea, La Pobla de Farnals, Altafulla and Miramar, whose drinking water and sewage systems are managed through different mixed or private companies linked to the Global Omnium Group.
