Gasoline rises another 1.8% before the August bridge and reaches levels of last year

Fuel prices do not stop rising week by week and in the case of gasoline they are already, on the eve of the bridge on August 15, at levels comparable to those paid by motorists last year once the discount on 20 cents per liter approved by the Government.

According to data from the European Union Oil Bulletin, in which the prices for this Monday are recorded, a liter of gasoline is on average at 1.68 euros, while diesel costs 1.55 euros. Filling a tank with a 55-liter gasoline car a few days from a bridge where millions of journeys are expected costs 92.4 euros, and doing it with a diesel car costs 85.2 euros.

Gasoline has become more expensive by 1.8% in one week and diesel by 3.3%, which in this second case represents the highest weekly rise so far this year. Until now, the most notable increase had occurred precisely in the last week of July, exceeding 2% for both fuels. Both fuels have been on the rise for five consecutive weeks, reaching their highest levels so far this year.

In the same week of 2022, in the midst of the energy crisis after the invasion of Ukraine and with hydrocarbons triggered, gasoline cost an average of 1.9 euros per liter, but this price was the one set by service stations before it was applied the reduction of 20 cents from the Government, so that consumers ended up paying 1.7 euros, a level similar to that of now.

The discount lasted until the end of last year. Diesel cost an average of 1.89 euros a year ago, before the bonus of 20 cents, and 1.69 after it, so that this fuel is now 14 cents per liter below last year's level .

The cheaper diesel is a consolation for fewer and fewer drivers because, according to the latest registration data from the association of vehicle manufacturers Anfac, gasoline cars are the ones that are making their way into the market. In July, only 11.9% of those sold were diesel, compared to 42.4% gasoline and 45.7% alternatives, among which the vast majority are non-plug-in hybrids that move, Especially with a gasoline engine.

The price of gasoline and diesel are in any case in Spain below the average for the euro zone, 1.86 euros for the first of these fuels and 1.72 for the second.

In the geoportal of the Ministry of Industry, the prize for the most expensive gas station goes to one in Menorca, near the Mahón airport, where a liter of gasoline costs 1.99 euros. In Madrid there are already a dozen service stations with a liter above 1.8 euros, and one, in Las Rozas, where it reaches 1.92 euros. In Barcelona, the most expensive price is 1.83 euros and the cheapest, 1.48 euros, at kilometer 11.5 of the c-15 road from Olèrdola.
