Garamendi accuses the Government of lack of seriousness for its tax proposal

The president of the CEOE employers' association, Antonio Garamendi, has accused the central government of not being serious about the proposal to raise taxes. "It is not serious, it is that with the fiscal issue we are in an electoral campaign", declared the representative of the businessmen before participating in the CEDE Congress that is being held today in Barakaldo.

In his opinion, it is not acceptable that in a decentralized society in autonomous communities, when the Government does not like the decisions taken, it chooses to harmonize taxes. Garamendi has referred to the proposal of the Ministry of Finance to create a new tax that in practice harmonizes the taxation of assets to all communities, including Madrid where it is 100% subsidized and in Andalusia where its effective suppression has been announced.

"It is curious that we talk about a diverse Spain until a man from the Government does not like that someone with his capacity can do it and at that moment he says no, now we are going to harmonize. The word harmonize that is being used is not harmonize, it is centralize", indicated the president of the businessmen.

Garamendi did not want to assess whether the 3.5% salary increase for civil servants would be a reasonable increase for collective bargaining as a whole.

Among others, the president of Agbar, Ángel Simón, participated in the CEDE Congress, referring to the need to keep the stakeholders (interest groups) in mind in all the territories in which the company is present. "You must act in the society you are in," he has said.

The president of Telefónica, José María Álvarez-Pallete, also participated. "The main challenge we face is inequality," he warned.
