Four complaints for sexual assault at the start of the Sanfermines

The negative note at the beginning of the Sanfermines has to do, once again, with the macho attacks. Four people have been reported so far accused of sexual assault. The mayoress of Pamplona, Cristina Ibarrola, has indicated that three of them have been arrested and "probably in the next few hours, because it seems that there is progress", the fourth will be arrested.

Ibarrola has offered this information in statements to the media before participating in the first meeting of the Sanfermines 2023 Local Civil Protection Board. The four complaints of sexual assault have been for touching.

“The latest information I have is that there are exactly four – those denounced. Three are detained and one will probably be detained in the next few hours because it seems that there is progress", explained the mayoress.

Ibarrola has regretted these events and has stressed that "Pamplona flatly rejects all kinds of sexual assault." "We have to do work, not only these days and not only stop them, but it is a multifactorial work, education first, and we will work on it throughout the year as a priority," he indicated.

For the rest, the mayoress of Pamplona has indicated that the party is taking place "for the moment" with "tranquility", with "many people and a good atmosphere". In addition, the mayoress thanked the work of all the workers -cleaning, health services, security forces...- who "work every day with great effort so that the rest of us can experience the Sanfermines with complete peace of mind".
