'Flying taxi' successfully completes commercial flight demonstration in China

The EH216-S passenger carrying unmanned aerial vehicle, popularly known as "flying taxi", successfully completes its first commercial flight demonstration at Luogang Central Park in Hefei, eastern Anhui province from China.

This drone, developed by EHang, a Chinese autonomous aerial vehicle technology platform company, uses electric power to reduce environmental damage and has a small volume (6.05 meters long and 1.93 meters high), high mobility ( maximum speed of 90 kilometers per hour) and low noise levels.

The EH216-S not only sets a benchmark for airworthiness certification of innovative eVTOLs in China and abroad, but is also a milestone for commercial urban air mobility operations, the company says.

"Our business logic is to develop a city-wide air traffic system," says Li Xiaona, vice president of EHang intelligent equipment, as she assures that traffic congestion in urban areas "is inevitable."

Following the first flight route in Luogang Center Park, the Hefei government plans to collaborate with EHang to expand air sightseeing flight routes and services to more scenic spots in Hefei.
