Feijóo expects a change of tone from the Government from the debate

The president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, faces the debate on the energy crisis that will be held this morning in the Senate with a proactive spirit. A debate that, in his opinion, “has already served”, because as a result of his request, Pedro Sánchez “has already lowered VAT on gas” from 21% to 5%, as he had requested.

But it does not seem enough to him, and tomorrow he will bring other measures to the debate, starting with the VAT on gas reduced to 5% extending beyond the month of December until the end of winter, that is, that it be in force while they are in use the heaters. And the same is requested for the 5% VAT on electricity.

They will not be the only initiatives that he proposes. This same week, Feijóo will send to Moncloa his particular energy saving plan, which he announced when opposing the government decree, and yesterday, at an informative breakfast organized by Europa Press, he advanced some of his measures.

Among them, that until the energy crisis lasts, Spain takes advantage of all its energy sources, which means extending the life of nuclear power plants, and not giving them up for an "ideological a priori".

It will also propose the debureaucratization to access renewable energies, with support for its installation and self-consumption; and above all aid and compensation to electro-intensive companies in which the price of electricity is a determining fixed cost. A measure that was also announced on Sunday by the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz.

Feijóo, therefore, hopes that the debate "could be the beginning of a change in the tone of the Government", and that the Executive agrees to negotiate with the PP "and skips the vetoes" imposed by its partners in the Government and legislature .

The president of the PP does not conceive today's debate thinking to see who wins it. He also does not understand that it should be based on the expectation of who is at stake more, if the President of the Government or the leader of the opposition, because “the ones who are at stake are the companies and households. If we think who plays more than the two, it will be a mistake.

In his opinion, neither can each debate be presented “in terms of confrontation of models and not as a battle”. And that, which in his opinion is being done by the Government, is a symptom of the current situation: “Spain is experiencing the fall of a government” because “you cannot do good politics when you have to dedicate so much effort to saving votes at the last minute” .

Feijóo, however, wants to be with his feet on the ground, and from the polls, which say that he will win the elections, he only points out that "if there were elections on Sunday, the PP would win, but on Sunday there are no elections."
