Feijóo calls for early elections because "the parliamentary majority does not coincide with the social one"

The president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has assured that "the time has come to request early elections now" considering that the Government of Pedro Sánchez assumes decisions that "were not submitted" to the polls and that go "against" of the "basic principles" of the Constitution.

"I think it is the most transparent and democratic solution. I understand that it is the best thing we can do at this time, given that we have elections in May, is to hold general elections immediately," he said in an interview with the The World newspaper.

Feijóo defends that the parliamentary majority does not coincide with the social majority, which is why he considers it necessary to go to the polls "immediately". "There are two options. The first, that Sánchez withdraw the changes to the Penal Code to leave the State unprotected. The second, that we Spaniards speak and say if we really want all this, that it is not subject to the polls. And if Sánchez is absolutely I am sure that this parliamentary majority responds to the social majority, that they consult with the social majority. I am sure that the social majority will say no," he asserted.

In this sense, he adds that Pedro Sánchez's performance in the last month "delegitimizes him to continue." "If you think that we Spaniards are going to enter an amnesia pandemic, you are wrong," he commented. One of the issues that Feijóo has criticized has been the repeal of the crime of sedition, an issue that will make Spain "one of the few EU countries that is left without that barrier to protect the State."

"The Government has accustomed us to grotesque weeks, but last Friday, in a single day, we discovered that there are no limits. By lowering the penalties for the crime of embezzlement there are two types of corruption: the good one, which is the one that interests the Socialist Party and its partners, and the rest. We are in an unprecedented situation, with a government that has no limits and with a president who lacks the most elementary senses of State," he attacked.

Along these lines, he has accused Sánchez of basing his presidency "on a list of lies and a list of maximum disloyalties", despite the fact that he established himself as "a champion against corruption during the motion of no confidence, in his commitment not to govern with Podemos, not to agree with Bildu and to enforce the Supreme Court's sentence on the separatists and classify the crime of illegal referendum."He has not complied with one. He has done exactly the opposite of what he committed himself to," Feijóo said.

"The Government has no word, no commitment, and no good faith. And this weekend, in case there was any doubt, we have confirmed that what the Government was interested in was having an excuse to block the CGPJ and control the TC. A We were reiterated that there would be no modification of the crime of sedition, which is the maximum expression of the politicization of justice and the rupture of judicial independence, because it supposes the repeal of the sentences of the Supreme Court", has sentenced.
