The president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has assured that "the time has come to request early elections now" considering that the Government of Pedro Sánchez assumes decisions that "were not submitted" to the polls and that go "against" of the "basic principles" of the Constitution.
"I think it is the most transparent and democratic solution. I understand that it is the best thing we can do at this time, given that we have elections in May, is to hold general elections immediately," he said in an interview with the The World newspaper.
Feijóo defends that the parliamentary majority does not coincide with the social majority, which is why he considers it necessary to go to the polls "immediately". "There are two options. The first, that Sánchez withdraw the changes to the Penal Code to leave the State unprotected. In this sense, he adds that Pedro Sánchez's performance in the last month "delegitimizes him to continue." One of the issues that Feijóo has criticized has been the repeal of the crime of sedition, an issue that will make Spain "one of the few EU countries that is left without that barrier to protect the State."
"The Government has accustomed us to grotesque weeks, but last Friday, in a single day, we discovered that there are no limits. By lowering the penalties for the crime of embezzlement there are two types of corruption: the good one, which is the one that interests the Socialist Party and its partners, and the rest.
