ERC will submit any agreement with the PSOE to its bases for consultation

Any agreement that Esquerra reaches with the Socialists for an eventual investiture of Pedro Sánchez in the coming weeks or months will be submitted to the consideration of the party's membership in a consultation, as was done on the previous occasion, when the Republicans reached a pact with the PSOE to launch the dialogue table in exchange for their votes.

This was decided this Friday by the national training council chaired by Oriol Junqueras.

In any case, it is not expected that there will be any type of agreement until after the summer holidays. The plenary session of the Congress of Deputies will be constituted on August 17. Until that week, no activity is expected, since the acting President of the Government has gone on vacation. It will be then when the election of the members of the Bureau is negotiated and the Republicans will try to get their own group in the Lower House, like the one they already had in the last legislature, although they do not meet the formal requirements and will require the support of other forces.

In parallel to the negotiation with the PSOE, for which the Republicans already have a designated negotiating team, the formation is waiting for meetings with Junts and other pro-independence actors.

This Friday's meeting was the first of the national council after the general elections of July 23, in which ERC left more than 400,000 votes compared to 2019. In the formation they are aware that it is a bad result and they have launched an internal process of reflection that will conclude in December.

This Friday's appointment also came after the ERC has agreed with the PSC to enter the government of the Barcelona Provincial Council, a matter that has gone down badly with some sectors of the party, including local leaders and militants who are trying to force a consultation about that deal. In addition, a group of critical militants has demanded this week that an extraordinary congress be held and that there be an agreement with JxCat to negotiate in Madrid.
