Emergency drill at the end of Besòs

Endesa has successfully completed a double people rescue drill at the Sant Adrià de Besòs Combined Cycle Thermal Power Plant (Barcelonès Nord) with the aim of verifying the effectiveness of the technical and human resources in an emergency situation. This tactical exercise is part of the prevention and safety plans that the company has been carrying out for years and periodically in all its thermal and hydroelectric generation facilities in Catalonia to prevent incidents in the complexes and know how to act safely and effectively in if it occurs, thus minimizing response time.

The exercises consisted of the simulation, on the one hand, of the fall of a worker while dismantling a twenty-one meter high scaffolding and, on the other, of an operator who was participating in the boiler cleaning work. In this second case, the operation was located in a narrow, caged space and it has been simulated that the person suffered severe chest pain while using dry ice. His colleagues could not carry his body and the intervention of the central rescue team was necessary to evacuate him.

Both training sessions allowed us to highlight and put into practice the most important aspects of the Safety Operational Instructions for working at height and confined spaces of the infrastructure.

These two practices not only emphasize the fact of having qualified means and personnel, but it is essential to have good planning of the work and the evacuation system that allows, in cases of emergency, to immediately remove the injured person. without suffering significant damage. These action protocols highlight Endesa's commitment to promote awareness and awareness regarding the prevention of occupational risks to minimize the effects on the safety and health of people, both the Company's own staff and collaborating companies. Up to six different corporations have participated in this drill, one of them specialized in vertical work, which is the one carried out by the rescue team.
