The Civil Guard is considering a possible "drowsiness" of the truck driver as the alleged cause of the serious traffic accident that occurred early this Tuesday at kilometer 24 of the AP-4 highway, in the municipality of Los Palacios and Villafranca (Seville); where a truck has run over a police checkpoint with the result of six deaths, which are two agents of the Rapid Action Group (GAR) of the Civil Guard and four people who were traveling from the province of Cádiz to that of Seville aboard three vehicles individuals.
This was stated by Commander Rafael Jiménez Onetti in statements to the media in the area of the accident, which occurred around 4:40 a.m. this Tuesday at a police checkpoint installed by members of the GAR of the Civil Guard around the point. kilometer 24 of the AP-4 highway, in Los Palacios.
When approaching the checkpoint, which was duly signposted, the driver of an articulated truck maneuvered abruptly, causing the vehicle to suffer the well-known 'scissors effect' and veer towards the shoulder. In its trajectory, the truck has run over the first three official Civil Guard vehicles that participated in the control and other private vehicles.
The Ocular Inspection and instruction of procedures are being carried out by the Traffic Subsector with the Accident Reconstruction Team.
In that sense, Commander Rafael Jiménez has lamented this true "tragedy", explaining that the driver of the truck, who was unharmed along with his companion, has returned a negative result in the alcohol and drug tests, although he is detained. due to "the seriousness" of the events and an alleged crime of reckless homicide is attributed.
The deceased, as he recalled, are two agents of the GAR of the Civil Guard and four more people who were traveling in three private vehicles, more specifically "people who were traveling from the Cádiz area." One of them would be a resident of Barbate, according to the Government Subdelegation in Cádiz. In addition, there are three injured officers, two of them taken to the Valme hospital and a third, "more serious" one, admitted to the Virgen del Rocío hospital.
This Civil Guard commander has stated that the matter is still in the investigation phase, explaining that the possibility of "drowsiness or lack of attention" of the truck driver as possible causes of the accident is being investigated, since the truck had left La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz) loaded with vegetables.
Thus, he has insisted that the matter is still under investigation, with "the first proceedings" still underway; and the truck's tachograph has already been downloaded to try to determine its speed at the time of the accident.
In any case, Commander Rafael Jiménez has stated that it is the "most terrible" traffic accident that he has seen in his almost 40 years of professional career.
The incident has motivated numerous reactions from the authorities and institutional representatives, with condolences from the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez; and the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno.
The Civil Guard, for its part, has regretted the six deaths and, in an entry on the social network ; while the Ministry of the Interior has also "deeply" regretted all these deaths, with its corresponding condolences to the families of the victims.
The delegate of the central government in Andalusia, Pedro Fernández, has also expressed his condolences and, also on the social network while the president of the Seville Provincial Council, Javier Fernández, has shown his "heartfelt condolences to the relatives of the deceased agents" and the remaining victims.
The Unified Association of the Civil Guard (AUGC) and the Professional Association of the Civil Guard (Jucil) have also regretted the events and have also shown their condolences.
