In this series of images in La Vanguardia Readers' Photos I have captured what is known as "segarresa fog" entering the Bages region.
According to the Catalan-Valencian-Balearic Dictionary of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans, "the segarresa fog is the one that watches over the Sierra de Prades for the northern part of the Camp de Tarragona".
There is a saying that says "Quan la Segarresa i la Manresana s'estiman, fa fred" (When Segarresa and Manresana love each other, it is cold). It refers to the fog of Amunt and Segarresa that come together.
This saying has its origin in Castellfollit del Boix, in Bages, and is considered an interesting case of personification of fogs. In fact, there is the meteorological saying "Sagarresa al matí, trons a la tumba" (Sagarresa in the morning, thunder in the afternoon).
Therefore, this Segarresa fog, captured in this case from the Bagesan town of Cardona, would be an omen of a storm, according to popular tradition.
