Dani de la Orden and Blanca Suárez: "We depend exclusively on the size of our pocket"

What would you choose, 100,000 euros now or a million in ten years? This seemingly innocent question is the one that is repeated throughout The Test, the new film by Dani de la Orden, which hits theaters this Friday.

Miren Ibarguren, Alberto San Juan, Carlos Santos and Blanca Suárez, together with Antonio Resines and Luna Fulgencio, are the protagonists of this comedy based on the homonymous play by Jordi Vallejo in which the limits of each. "I was quite clear about which actors I wanted to work with," admits De la Orden to La Vanguardia.

Suárez, for her part, explains to this medium that they shot the film a year ago and “I am excited that it is already in theaters. I want to know which option people opt for. For my part, I already anticipated that I would expect a million”. De la Orden, on the other hand, assures that, “if you had asked me a few days ago I would tell you the million, but every time I see the option of taking the 100,000 less bad. In any case, I would be lying if I didn't say that money limits and that we depend exclusively on the size of our pocket”. Something with which the protagonist of The Cable Girls also agrees.

The actress plays a psychologist who becomes famous for defending a theory: that people can be separated into failures or winners depending on the option they choose. “In real life I don't think everything is black and white. I am very much in favor of grays. In addition, the choice of each one's circumstances also depends a lot, ”she acknowledges.

And this theory is the one that Toni, Alberto San Juan's character, a man whose life hasn't gone bad for him, exposes his two best friends, Héctor and Paula, played by Carlos and Miren, a married couple who It is difficult for him to make ends meet and he does not have a very clear future. They cannot set up a business or access credit, so the monetary dilemma that their friend poses makes them rethink their principles that, initially, at least hers, seem unshakable.

“It is not about losing or not losing dignity. What happens to all of us is that we fall into traps. Sometimes we put them on ourselves and other times life puts them on you. And sooner or later you end up falling into them, ”says Suárez, who anticipates that his character was quite a challenge because he is“ the one who has the most ups and downs throughout the film. In addition, the story begins and ends around these three friends. So it was very important that this satellite character that is mine not be left empty or hanging”.

The filming left good moments, as both recognize. De la Orden explains that “the film takes place during a dinner, which allowed us to have dinner every day for two weeks with a luxury cast in a beautiful mansion while the sun was setting. It was wonderful, quite an experience. I even thought about bringing the filming forward or backward so that we could be stunned by watching it, but we thought it was worth it for the viewers to enjoy it as well, ”he admits.
