Criticism of Borràs stirs Junts after the controversy over the 17-A tribute

The 24 hours of anger in the Junts chats after the controversy during the tribute to the victims of 17-A in Barcelona were consolidated yesterday as perpetual discomfort after the explanations of Laura Borràs about her performance on the Rambla. The president of the party, far from facing any self-criticism, played with words to justify the protest during the act of an independence group and her personal action when going to greet, hug and thank the shouts of "president" of the group of protesters .

Borràs stood in front of the microphones of Catalunya Ràdio and RAC1 in an attempt to defend his passage through the Rambla and calm the waters in Junts, but he did not achieve any restorative effect. Far from convincing, internal criticism intensified. The president has ended the patience of many post-convergent leaders, and only the temper imposed by Jordi Turull has contained an avalanche of reactions in public.

He admitted that it is "totally out of place" to interrupt a minute of silence in a tribute to the victims of a terrorist act, but then attributed it to a single person, while defending the protesters who accused the State of being behind the terrorists. attacks. The confrontation between that group and some victims present at the act was aired with a "I did not greet or applaud these people."

It rains on wet in Junts with Laura Borràs. She has become unbeatable in internal party primaries, losing both chapters of the congress in favor of Turull and being suspended from her duties as a deputy, with express requests that she abandon the presidency of Parliament for the good of the party and the institution. . Not even the pressure from her followers to break the Govern pact with ERC has had an effect. There was no discussion in the executive. "We cannot tie ourselves to a debate on corruption," they point out.

Internal criticism has skyrocketed due to Borràs's "vedetismo" after the tribute to the victims and the damage to the Junts brand. “It was not the place or the time”, “not like that”, “of other people's shame”… The party's contact groups were on fire… Turull did not intervene in any of them, but he did hold conversations with different leaders who asked him to take measures to stop the bleeding against Junts. He also did not sit with the protagonist of the controversy. Faced with the agitation, the general secretary prescribes calm and tries to prevent the "Borràs effect" from drowning Junts' day-to-day life.

It was possible that in twenty-four hours she herself would try to resituate herself in the face of the evidence that her attitude "could not be defended", according to executive sources. Although for this he ended up de facto disauthorizing his deputy-advisor, Jaume Alonso-Cuevillas, who dared to specify the condemnation of Junts at the protest during the minute of silence on the Rambla. He bumped into all the muscle of Junts. They supported the position of the party Carles Puigdemont, Turull, Josep Rull, the vice-president Jordi Puigneró, the militant councilors Lourdes Ciuró and Violant Cervera, Victoria Alsina –Jaume Giró and Josep Maria Argimon do not have Twitter–, the president of the parliamentary group, Albert Batet, the speaker Josep Rius, the speaker in the Parliament, Mònica Sales; the one from the Senate, Josep Lluís Cleries...

The succession of problems that surround the president due to her “desire for notoriety” – the suspension of Pau Juvillà, the incident with Francesc de Dalmases on TV3, the management of his suspension and, now, the Rambla – are counted as “battles lost ”, emphasize party leaders. "When you play with fire, you end up getting burned," they point out.

However, fed up with so much noise, they demand more forcefulness from Turull when demanding Borràs loyalty to the common project and to contain its excesses. The secretary general is not a friend of swerving, but he cannot ignore the weight of the voices that demand measures beyond the consequences.

The question they put on the table is clear: if Artur Mas stepped aside, Carles Puigdemont resigned from the investiture, Jordi Sànchez could not be a candidate, Turull was imprisoned in the middle of the investiture debate and the disqualification of Quim Torra did not prevent him from continuing Go ahead, why doesn't Borràs sacrifice himself for the game? "He must assume reality and his new situation," they insist.

The malaise is not the flower of a day, and Turull will have to face it in the long work meeting of the executive scheduled for the last days of the month. The appointment was intended to set the guidelines for the new course, but, according to members of the management, the role of Borràs will also have its share of prominence. "Without a doubt," they say. Turull neither wants nor expects an internal split, but the president of the party has filled the glass of many.
