Congress approves adding the name of Montserrat Caballé to the Sants station

In recent years, the Atocha station has added Almudena Grandes to its official name; Chamartín, that of Clara Campoamor; in Málaga, María Zambrano's has been incorporated; and in Burgos, that of Rosa Manzano. Now the PP wants the Sants station to incorporate the Montserrat Caballé station.

The Transport and Sustainable Mobility commission of the Congress of Deputies approved this Tuesday the proposal presented by the Popular Party with the vote against ERC and the abstention of the rest of the parliamentary groups. The name change must be processed later by the Government.

On the same day, the Council of Ministers gave the green light to the tender for the works of the first phase of the renovation of Sants station for 175.8 million euros. The Government has reserved 130 million from European funds for this action and must invest them before 2026 if it does not want to lose them. Although the calendar is tight, the procedures are being slower than initially announced.

This first phase will include the expansion of the building with a new high-speed boarding hall and Rodalies, the recovery of the Plaza de los Païses Catalans to its original state and the adaptation of the entrance spaces to the station both on foot and by car. taxi and bus.
