The meeting between Jaume Collboni and Ada Colau scheduled for this morning has finally been postponed at the last minute. The meeting between the mayor of Barcelona and the former mayor of the city is part of the negotiations surrounding a new municipal government.
The objective of the socialists is to reach a government pact before spring, an agreement that will allow them to approve this year's municipal budgets, which have been extended for now.
Apparently, as La Vanguardia learned, the postponement of the meeting scheduled for today responds to Mayor Collboni's agenda problems. Very soon the socialists will propose a new date to the commons. Some prefer not to comment on the matter.
In principle, especially among the socialist ranks, today's meeting was nothing more than one of many aimed at outlining the new government. But given the latest frictions between PSC and BComú, this meeting was called to iron out some rough edges that every day complicate a possible pact between PSC, BComú and ERC a little more.
Colau and his people insist that Barcelona needs a progressive government. But the socialists still reproach him for failing the municipal executive in the last plenary session of the City Council, and the Republicans are not particularly enthusiastic about the possibility of setting up a new tripartite. It is still too early to gauge whether the farewell of its leader Ernest Maragall will mean a substantial change in this regard.
The truth is that until now Mayor Collboni seems to understand much better with the leader of Junts, with Xavier Trias. But this good harmony, especially on a personal level, has not yet materialized into any concrete agreement. Both formations also have some tensions.
