Chicuelo lands in Maldà cinemas with a documentary and new record work

Juan Gómez 'Chicuelo' was the protagonist last night at the Maldà cinemas in Barcelona. There, a documentary about the prestigious internationally famous flamenco composer and guitarist, Camino a Chicuelo, was premiered, which has received five nominations for the Goya Awards.

Directed by Luis Gibert, the film follows the musician during the days leading up to the concert he gave in Barcelona in August 2021 and delves into his life through people who have defined him throughout his life, such as Marco Mezquida, Chano Domínguez or Sílvia Pérez Cruz, who remembers the joys that No te puedo encontrar gave them both, the theme they composed for the film Blancanieves and with which they won the 2013 Goya Award for Best Song.

The premiere of the film, which can be seen in Maldà cinemas on December 19, 20, 21 and 22, coincides with the publication of Caminos (Daniela Eventi y Spettacoli S.L, 2022), their new album, made up of tangos, alegrías, bulerías and granaínas with which the artist searches for new sonorities. In fact, the film accompanies the artist from Cornellà de Llobregat during the gestation of this new project.

Although the guitarist Casimiro González was the one who helped confirm his passion for music, it must be said that Chicuelo had been flirting with this scene for years. In fact, when he was only three years old, he was already singing for the clubs and passing the cap, as his friends remember in the film. At sixteen he decided to give up cante to focus only on the guitar and it was precisely at that age that he offered his first concert.

Chicuelo has accompanied various singers throughout his career. The first was the singer Mayte Martín, who discovered him at the Tablao del Carmen, where he was a guitarist from the moment it opened its doors, in 1988. She has not been the only one who has enjoyed his company on stage, as she has also accompanied by Enrique Morente, Rancapino, La Susi, La Marelu, Chano Lobato, José Mercé, L'Escamarlà, Potet or Carmen Linares. In addition, he has been the regular guitarist for, among others, Miguel Poveda and Duquende.

Among his many merits, there is also that of creating and leading the Barata group in 1996, with which he obtains great recognition. In addition, he was a member of the Guitarres Mestisses group, with which he recorded two albums. But all this has not prevented him from also succeeding solo. Proof of this is this great project that is Caminos.
