Chen Yansheng apologizes: "We have not learned from mistakes"

The CEO of Espanyol, Mao Ye, was the first club leader to apologize after the tragic relegation to Second Division was consummated at Mestalla. This Monday, he has taken the floor Chen Yansheng, also to apologize. The president and owner of the Spanish entity assumes "full responsibility" in a video of just under three minutes and acknowledges that they have not "learned from the mistakes made a few seasons ago", when in 2020 the Catalan team also lost the category

"Dear fans, we're sorry, we've failed you and we know that nothing we say now can console your pain, or calm your impotence and anger. We have fought and believed in achieving the goal until the last moment, but we have not achieved it and from the Board of Directors of RCD Espanyol we want to apologize and assume all our responsibility in an outcome that you do not deserve", the president begins his message in Chinese from his office in China, where he displays an Espanyol flag.

Yansheng explains that "it is a moment of deep sadness" and describes the relegation to the silver category as a "blow". "Nobody wanted it, nor expected it," continues the businessman, owner of the club since Rastar became the largest shareholder in 2016. "It is time to analyze the season and do self-criticism, to correct mistakes, but also to promote virtues," he insists.

The manager has no qualms about remarking "that the club has not been up to the task at many times of the season, that it has not been able to redirect a situation that began to go wrong a long time ago", but advocates not "regretting" and " learn from the past" to focus on a "present" that should be the beginning of the return to Primera, the "place that for history and fans" deserves Espanyol.

"We have fallen countless times and we have always gotten up. This time it will not be different. Rebellion, nonconformity and the fighting spirit are part of our DNA. A parrot does not give up, nor will it give up," he appeals to the Spanish feeling Yansheng, and to work to "recover the confidence" of the fans.

"Your support for the team and our colors is beyond any doubt because you have always been there. We cannot ask you for anything. You have given your life for your club. You have joined, pushed and believed until the last minute. For our part there can only be one Our only commitment: to work from this very moment to recover the lost category, devoting all the resources at our disposal to it. Your encouragement is essential for our players. We promise to give everything for our centenary shield and for you. Our most sincere apologies. Visca l' Spanish", he concludes.
