Cervezas La Virgen ceases its activity and will fire 78 people in Madrid

The Spanish craft brewery Cervezas La Virgen announced this Monday that it will cease its activity, which will lead to the dismissal of its 78 workers and will imply the opening of a process of "dialogue and negotiation" with the unions, as well as the closure of its establishments, according to company sources informed Europa Press.

Specifically, the company has reported that it will cease its activity at both its factory and the taproom and the bars, since it has six different La Virgen locations, which are distributed in Majadahonda, Alcorcón and four in Madrid capital.

"We have faced a complex situation in terms of obtaining permits for the company's flagship location in Las Rozas. This fact, in combination with the difficult financial situation that exists, has led Cervezas La Virgen to make this difficult decision," the craft brewer has assured.

In this way, the company has assured that it will carry out this process with "maximum respect" for its workers, with the aim of reaching an agreement that minimizes, as far as possible, the social impact of this decision.

The 'craft' brewery, which was founded in 2011 by young entrepreneurs, reported at the end of last year of the closure of its factory, which was located in the Európolis industrial estate in Las Rozas (Madrid), but was confident that it would be a temporary decision and to be able to find a reasonable solution to the City Council's doubts, something that ultimately could not be.
