Barcelona native Xavi Moya lost his life this Saturday in Barcelona, ​​victim of a motorcycle accident. He was 55 years old. Moya had a long and successful career both in boxing and in other contact sports, being champion of Spain, Europe and the world several times.

The Barcelonan, born on November 23, 1967, debuted as a professional boxer in 1992 in a fight in Barcelona against José Manuel Varela, whom he managed to defeat by 'KO'. From then on, his career was a success and he achieved an impressive record of triumphs.

Specifically, he was a three-time middleweight champion of Spain and also an intercontinental champion, IBF version. He was also crowned European and world champion in kung Fu and won the world championship nine times and the European Full Contact championship seven times, making him one of the few fighters to win titles in three different disciplines.

As he explained in many interviews, Moya became interested in contact sports and began training after suffering a robbery in the middle of the street when he was only sixteen years old.

He retired in 2008 and, since then, he managed a gym where he mentored the careers of young boxers and wrestlers from different contact disciplines.

The Espanyol sports club, of which Moya was a fan, has expressed its pain at the loss of the former champion, remembering him as a great athlete and offering its condolences to his family and friends.
