Between the ideal and the possible

Let's go for multiple anniversaries. And not because of the two decades of that Axis of Prosperity perpetrated by Aznar together with his three peons from Madrid, Valencia and the Balearic Islands, namely the respective regional presidents Camps and Matas and the ineffable Aguirre. A whole mortar to weaken the Zapatero of that time and dynamit the timid initial proposals in favor of a Mediterranean corridor that is unquestionable today.

The umpteenth stratagem from the M-30 that twenty years later is put to good use again this week with the four-handed team of Ayuso and Mazón. With different and competing political agendas, with contrary and conflicting desires and demands, but the desire to rebuild an anti-Sanchista Maginot Line pulls more than all the carts in the universe. That and at least for the account brought to us from the Mediterranean by the commitment to strengthening a fundamental infrastructure for those appearing such as the Port of València.

Last week many people celebrated the forty-fifth birthday of the 1978 Constitution. In passing, I gave myself a hat from the Albero artisans for when I can celebrate a Magna Carta that observes the civil law of the Valencian Community, know... family law, inheritances and wills, de facto unions, transfer of the family business, intestate succession... as the worthy Association of Valencian Jurists constantly reminds us.

That sacrosanct and untouchable Constitution that the illustrious Aznar a year later, in 1979 and from the newspaper La Nueva Rioja, bluntly attacked. What a different disposition was demonstrated by one of his parents, Miquel Roca, who these days has testified that when he made an agreement with Manuel Fraga, he went from thinking that when he was going to arrest him, to having a sincere friendship and mourning his death. Well, I stick with the words of the brave current president of Congress Francina Armengol, who advocated on the occasion for that plural and diverse State where citizens benefit from full decentralization. If reconciliation was possible four decades ago, let us make coexistence possible today.

With the third notable stop, the fortieth anniversary of the bloody closure of Altos Hornos del Mediterráneo. “Felipe, Guerra, Sagunt does not close” still resonates through the Camp de Morvedre. The negligible weight of Valencians in Madrid's power circles has always condemned our steel industry, even the Numantine Saguntine resistance. No matter how much international reports chose it as the most viable against Asturias or Euskadi. What a colossal mistake by the PSOE at that time, even more so decades later when the current PSOE should already understand that it will be Mediterranean or it will not be...

Well, continuing with the closures, between the “Santiago and close Spain” of Las Navas de Tolosa, the Warrior of the Antifaz and Captain Trueno… what do you want me to say, I am left with “Santiago and open Spain, to freedom and progress ” by Valle-Inclán in his Lights of Bohemia.
