Barcelona will act as the capital of architecture in a collective manner and will work together with the city's professional and cultural entities, institutions, schools and citizens to carry out this great event that will make us the epicenter of architecture. Among all the organizations involved, a broad program will be offered to present architectural knowledge in an entertaining, didactic and attractive way.
For ten months, from Santa Eulalia to Santa Lucía, there will be activities in the ten districts: exhibitions, routes, workshops, open days, installations, conferences and competitions. The objective will be to vindicate our heritage and the talent that exists in the city and, at the same time, disseminate how transformative urban planning and architecture are.
Headquarters of the Congress of the International Union of Architects
Three decades after having hosted the XIX Congress of the UIA, in 1996, Barcelona will once again host this meeting in which the sector will address the challenges we face as a society and confirm that architecture is more necessary than ever to solve problems such as climate change or access to housing.
The objectives go beyond 2026
The event plans to leave a permanent legacy in the city. On the one hand, a large-scale model of Barcelona will be created. On the other hand, an international competition of ideas will be organized to intervene in the city's party walls to encourage them to add value to the urban landscape. It will include artistic and thematic interventions related to values such as habitability, sustainability or biodiversity.
Meanwhile, the Architecture Weeks
During 2024 and 2025, the Architecture Weeks will be the prelude to this great event, with a hundred activities. This year there will be seven weeks, from May 14 to June 28, during which entities and groups will offer extensive programming.
