Banyoles, the idyllic winter without drought

Lake Banyoles seems to be experiencing another winter, different from the rest of Catalonia, since in this pond in the region of Pla de l'Estany it seems that there has never been a drought, as can be seen in these photographs in Las Fotos de los Lectores from La Vanguardia.

The Banyoles pond and its surroundings are full of life, attracting all types of birds, especially storks, and its waters are open to recreational uses, as seen with rowers.

The largest pond in Catalonia, which was part of the 1992 Olympic competitions, shines with the colors of this mild winter, presenting a good flow of water. Nothing to do with the dry and depressing appearance of the swamps.

In a route of about 6 km, with several walkways and viewpoints, you can skirt the lake either on foot or by bicycle. On this route we can observe the storks in their nests, pecking in the fields or look at the flowering mimosas.

There are several very well indicated routes. There are walkways and viewpoints that border the lake and bring you closer to the water to contemplate it.

When walking along the shore of the lake you can see small huts that are for private use, which were used to store the boat and so that the owners could bathe and change clothes. They are the fisheries. These buildings, which were built throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, are similar to small mansions. They are the evolution and consolidation of the old walkways that, due to the shallow depth of the banks of the pond, were built for fishing. Today they are witnesses that Lake Banyoles has emerged unscathed from the drought.
