Badalona activates the deployment of shared electric motorcycles

The Badalona City Council has started the procedures to activate the shared electric motorcycle service promoted by the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB), which foresees a call for 10,000 metropolitan motorcycles, of which about 800 will correspond to Badalona. It must be taken into account that as it is a metropolitan service, the initial number may vary.

Badalona will be one of the cities that, together with Hospitalet, Cornellà, Esplugues, Sant Joan Despí, Sant Just Desvern and Sant Feliu, will deploy motorbike sharing for the Baix Llobregat, while in the Barcelonès Nord it is expected that they will have motorbikes and mopeds Badalona, Santa Coloma de Gramenet and Sant Adrià de Besòs power stations. For this purpose, 15 licenses will be granted to each operate around 650 vehicles, which will operate 24 hours a day.

Currently, Badalona has 21,000 registered motorcycles and an increase of 800 new shared electric vehicles will mean increasing the current fleet by 3.7%. Likewise, reference studies indicate that each sharing motorcycle usually takes four private motorcycles out of circulation, so, in the medium term, a decrease in Badalona of between 1,000 and 1,500 motorcycles is expected.

Shared electric vehicles have geolocation mechanisms and technology that allows the use and violations to be controlled, so the local police can sanction the user. The system, in the initial phase, does not entail a cost for the City Council, since AMB foresees that the licenses will be financed through a fee to the operator.
