Arrested in Alicante for bringing immigrants from Algeria in "taxi-patera" at 8,000 euros per trip

A 41-year-old Algerian man from Alicante has been arrested and has already entered prison accused of being the alleged ringleader of an illegal immigration network that organized speedboat trips from Algeria to the Spanish coast for 8,000 euros.

A 41-year-old Algerian man from Alicante has been arrested and has already entered prison accused of being the alleged ringleader of an illegal immigration network that organized speedboat trips from Algeria to the Spanish coast for 8,000 euros.

The National Police has explained that the agents finally found his location after finding out that he resided in Alicante, deploying a rapid police device for his arrest, and being arrested for an alleged crime of criminal organization and crime against the rights of foreign citizens for favoring of illegal immigration.

As reported by group III of the UCRIF of the Murcia Police Headquarters, the detainee was the owner of the boats used by the organization to transport migrants and was also the one who gave the orders from Spain, in a operation in which another five people have been arrested for transporting migrants to Spain.

For the aforementioned trips, they used boats or speedboats equipped with high-powered engines called "taxi-patera", charging each migrant about 8,000 euros for the journey.

The alleged ringleader, who has been imprisoned by order of the Alicante Guard Investigating Judge, is charged with an alleged crime of criminal organization and crime against the rights of foreign citizens for favoring illegal immigration.

The investigation has been carried out by agents belonging to Group III of the Unit Against Immigration Networks and Document Falsification (UCRIF) of the Provincial Police Station of Alicante.
