Aragonés demands from the State a declaration of compensation for the shooting of Companys

The president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, has demanded this Sunday that the Spanish Government make an institutional declaration of compensation and reparation for the figure of the former president of the republican Generalitat Lluís Companys, shot in 1940 by Franco.

In statements to journalists after the wreath laying on the occasion of the 83rd anniversary of Companys' execution, Aragonès demanded that the State make an "act of reparation" and assume its responsibilities in the execution of the former president. "That he recognizes the injustice of his prosecution, that he reveals the illegitimacy of the body that tried him and that he expressly declares the nullity of his sentence," Aragonès stressed.

Like every year, the tribute to the president of the Generalitat, Lluis Companys, brought together this morning representatives of the Catalan institutions and different parties, in the Barcelona cemetery of Montjuïc, to honor his memory and mark a profile and position in current politics.

For Salvador Illa, the commemoration of Companys' execution is "an occasion to underline the will to be and live together in Catalonia and to remember, ignore the past, and reflect on the best paths for the future."

And in terms of current events, the first secretary of the PSC has recognized that his party faces the investiture as a "difficult and complex" negotiation, with calm, caution and clear ideas. And he has been convinced that "Spain will do well and Catalonia will do well."

The deputy general secretary of Strategy, Communication and Institutional Coordination of ERC, Juli Fernàndez, has asked this Sunday for the "total restitution" of the figure of the former president of the Republican Generalitat Lluís Companys as well as of other executed people and that the " more than a thousand" properties looted almost ninety years ago.

The republican leader has pointed out that ERC "puts on the table the need for total restitution and in all areas, legal, personal and property" of the figure of Companys and other republicans who were shot at a time in which "we continue fighting, defending those values of freedom, equality, fraternity and democracy."

The president of JxCat, Laura Borràs, has assured that the figure of Companys represents "not giving up", and taking him as an example she has insisted that her party will not renounce unilaterality "or any of the legitimate resources" to move towards " freedom". "For this reason, today more than ever, from Junts we look in the eyes of this State that is the heir of the one that shot President Companys and we tell it that we do not surrender," she emphasized.

For her part, the president of the Parliament, Anna Erra (also from Junts), has lamented that the current situation "is not very far" from what occurred in the Companys era: "For defending our rights and freedoms we continue to have repression , exile, persecution and judicialization". For this reason, according to  Erra, 83 years after Companys' execution, the context and defense values of Catalonia "are still very valid."

For his part, from Brussels, former president Carles Puigdemont has assured that president Lluís Companys "is a formal victim of the Spanish state" and, for this reason, he demands that the State ask for "forgiveness."

Puigdemont has said on the social network Spanish in accordance with current legislation." "He is not a victim of an uncontrolled guerrilla," he added.

In the same message, Puigdemont shares a link to the file of the summary court martial against Companys.
