Amazon acquires the rights to 'Operación Triunfo' and is already preparing a new edition

The return of Operación Triunfo was closer than we thought. Its last broadcast was in 2020, an edition that undoubtedly went down in history, since the contestants had to leave the academy due to the confinement that occurred in March due to the pandemic. A situation that caused the expected final gala to take place months later.

After the closing of the edition on Televisión Española, both the production company and the chain considered that the format should rest for a while, to regenerate that interest that had been lost with the passing of the editions. In recent months it was rumored that the return of the musical talent was just around the corner, but it was today when it was confirmed that it is back on track.

The digital medium Vertele has been in charge of giving this news. But also not only does the format return, but it does so in a new house. And it is that Amazon has bought the broadcast rights of the format and will be in charge of issuing the new edition. In this way, the music contest makes the leap to streaming and can be seen on Amazon Prime Video.

According to the outlet, the premiere of the new edition is scheduled for the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024. The platform will broadcast live galas and will also give viewers the opportunity to enjoy the Channel 24 hours. According to the digital media, the agreement will be closed in the coming days.

After this revelation, the format thus begins a new journey away from traditional television and with a view to conquering streaming content. Although Prime video has acquired the rights to the contest, it was not the only one that was interested in the format. And it is that after the broadcast of three editions on Spanish Television, there was much speculation about which channel or platform would be in charge of acquiring the rights to give the talent a new life. Netflix was interested, as its entertainment director said, and Movistar Plus was also one of the other chains that fought to get the rights.
