Alcoi finalizes the preparation of the oldest Three Kings Parade in Spain

Everything is already prepared. This afternoon the ambassador will read the Royal Bando which is the prelude to the Three Kings Parade of Alcoi, the oldest in Spain, dating back to 1866. Today's event consists of the announcement of the arrival of the Three Kings and the collection of letters from children all over the city. This event has been celebrated in Alcoi since 1923. These are the moments prior to the arrival tomorrow of their majesties who will distribute, with the help of their pages, the gifts throughout the city. A unique show.

Every year more than a thousand people participate in the Parade and the Adoration of the Kings to the Child Jesus, including the pages and torch bearers; servers and escorts; personnel in cars and floats; music bands and dance groups 'Carrascal' and 'Sant Jordi'; and Scout and Junior groups, among others, as indicated by the Diocese of Valencia - to which the town of Alcoi belongs - in a statement.

The priest from Alcoy Camilo Bardisa, abbot of the Collegiate Church of Xàtiva and episcopal vicar of Vicariate VI - to which Alcoi belongs along with most important religious events in Alcoi throughout the year, in which the parishes collaborate in the organization, which is in charge of the City Council and the Association of San Jorge".

Specifically, this year 350 pages from ten different entities will participate, such as Juniors, Scout and Salesian groups, among others, together with the San Jorge Association, who will be in charge of distributing the gifts, on Friday afternoon, in the houses that are located within the route of the Cavalcade. In some cases, they will use hand ladders, with which they will climb to the balconies of the homes to deliver the packages.

Furthermore, as part of the religious events, on Saturday, January 6, the Alcoyan parishes will celebrate the mass of the solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord.

The Three Kings Parade is part of the so-called Christmas Trilogy, which begins with the Pastoretes act - held last Saturday -, which represents the offering of gifts to Jesus by the shepherds.

Finally, the Three Kings Parade will be celebrated with more than a thousand people accompanying their Majesties, who will tour the streets of the city in decorated cars and floats along with local music bands and dance groups.

Once the procession arrives at the Plaza de España, around 8:00 p.m., the Adoration of 'Jesuset' will take place, an act that is adorned with the effect of flares distributed among the public and music such as the Hallelujah of the 'Messiah' by Handel. At the end, a fireworks display will be set off and the procession will continue its journey through the streets of Alcoi.

The Three Kings Parade has been held in Alcoi continuously since 1885, although its documentary history dates back to 1866. In November 2001 it was declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest
