Albiol starts the Ministry's commitment to regenerate the beaches of Badalona

The mayor of Badalona (Barcelonès Nord), Xavier García Albiol, and the Secretary of State for the Environment, Hugo Morán, agreed yesterday, during a meeting at the headquarters of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, an action to regenerate the sand in the stretches of beach on the Badalona coast that are most affected by the regression and removal of remains of old buildings.

This meeting, in which the general director of Costa y Mar, Ana María Oñoro, also participated; the second deputy mayor in the field of Economic Promotion and City, Work, Culture, Citizenship and Government, Cristina Agüera, and the fourth deputy mayor in the field of Communication, European Funds and Protection of People, Rosa del Amo, had been requested to address the concerns of the City Council regarding the problems of the Badalona coastline.

During the meeting, both parties analyzed the current situation of Badalona's beaches, identifying the specific challenges facing each one. This joint diagnosis is a starting point to work in a coordinated manner between both administrations and ensure that the beaches are in optimal conditions for the summer season.

One of the specific actions agreed upon at the meeting is the regeneration of the sand in the stretches of beach most affected by erosion, as well as the removal of remains of old constructions that occurred on the beaches. On the other hand, the issue of the works on the Pont del Petroli was also discussed with the Secretary of State for Coasts. In this regard, the ministry has committed to working together to expedite the corresponding procedures so that the works can begin in the spring of 2025.

The mayor, Xavier García Albiol, thanked the ministry for its willingness to collaborate and expressed the importance of the actions to recover the sand and the procedures to continue with the repair of the emblematic bridge.

"These two interventions are fundamental for Badalona, on the one hand, so that residents can fully enjoy our beaches next summer and, on the other, to recover as soon as possible the appearance of the city's coastline and an element as emblematic as the Oil Bridge,” explained the mayor.
