A train traveler: “A very strong impact was heard and the train shook.”

The multiple collision in Montmeló (Barcelona) of a commuter train that this Sunday night resulted in the death of four young people between 19 and 22 years old has been strongly felt from inside the car. “A strong impact was heard and then the train shook and stopped suddenly,” Arnau Masnou, one of the passengers traveling inside, explained to RAC1.

Masnou reported that two minutes ago they had left the nearby Parets station. Seven people heading to a festival have tried to cross the road on a curve with poor visibility and four of them have been run over and killed. The other three have been taken to hospital with an anxiety attack. As the passenger explained, they spent about two hours inside the car. Initially, they did not know what had happened until they were informed that a person had been run over. Masnou said that they have not reported what happened from the train.

Despite the impact, there were no injuries on the train except for one person who suffered an “asthma attack,” the passenger said. This person was subsequently treated for an anxiety crisis, who gave the notice at 8:18 p.m. The emergency service has also treated the train driver, who has been discharged on the spot, while the three young people who have not died have been taken to hospital.

At around eleven at night, the judicial authority authorized the affected train, which was carrying around 170 people, to resume circulation to the Granollers-Canovelles station, where users will continue their journey in another convoy.

Seven fire crews from the Generalitat have traveled to the scene of the accident, including the chief of guard of the North Metropolitan Emergency Region.

Ten Mossos d'Esquadra patrols have also been activated to facilitate access for emergency services.
