'A place to dream' twice: Netflix prepares a prequel

There is a lot of talk about high-budget Netflix series like The Witcher or Stranger Things, which tend to receive more promotion from the company, but the importance of a series like A Place to Dream on Netflix should never be underestimated: it accumulates a notable number of hours of viewing with a low-cost budget. So it should come as no surprise to anyone that, while a sixth season of the drama series is in production, it has a prequel in development.

If A Place to Dream focuses on the new life that Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) has built for herself in Virgin River, where she arrived fleeing a marriage marked by tragedy, this spin-off series will focus on her late mother's youth.

The mother, whose name was Sarah, was also in the village and also found love. To be exact, with Everett, who is Mel's biological father and who is currently played by John Allen Nelson.

According to Deadline, Netflix is in the midst of a casting process to find the actors who will play Sarah and Everett. These, furthermore, would not go directly to work on the prequel but will appear in the sixth season of A Place to Dream through flashbacks. This will try to open mouths among the public and, in the process, both the platform and the showrunner Patrick Sean Smith will be able to see how it works.

The fifth season of A Place to Dream, which had 12 episodes released between September and November, accumulated more than 273 million hours watched. The sixth, for now, will take a while to arrive: there will be no new episodes on Netflix until 2025.
