A mani in the middle of the bridge

The Servei Català de Trànsit estimates that half a million vehicles have left Barcelona to enjoy the Constitution Bridge, but this has not discouraged the ANC from calling a demonstration on Tuesday at 12 noon in Pla de Palau. The reason? Well, they are against the sedition reform that the Spanish government has agreed with ERC. It seems that a few organizations have signed up, such as JxC or the Consell de la República, but I would swear that everything is the same with different labels. What is relevant is that Òmnium, which already marked the distance in the last Diada, has done it again: it will not join the concentration, since it is not in the line of putting pressure on the Government of the Generalitat with its involvement in the reform. Òmnium has preferred to promote a manifesto in which it claims that the changes in the Criminal Code do not aggravate the crimes of public disorder, which have been signed by entities such as the PAH or the Pensioner Tide.

The president of Òmnium already warned before the Eleventh of September that they do not intend to fall into an anti-political or populist dynamic, which was a direct message to the ANC, which claims to lift the unilateral declaration of independence, bypassing the parties. Which is a toast to the sun, but also on a cloudy day.

The sedition reform is part of Pedro Sánchez's strategy to please ERC, after his commitment to pragmatism, which includes his support for the socialist government. We could say that it is a tailored suit that can facilitate the return of expatriate politicians. It is not about a social demand of the citizens, nor even about the obligation to adapt the sedition sentences to what is considered reasonable in Europe. But it can serve to finish normalizing the situation in Catalonia. And of course it has a cost for Sánchez! In recent hours, not only the right, but also figures such as Felipe González, have stated that the rupture of the constitutional order cannot be classified as public disorder. In this context, Tuesday's demonstration is as extemporaneous as the ANC's current slogan: “Independència, ara!”.
