Los Miura, heavyweights touched by legend, closed the running of the bulls for San Fermín this morning with a fast run, full of blows and falls, and which, however, did not leave any serious injuries. This trend has been repeated during the eight confinements of the festivities, in which there have been no tragedies to regret, although many disturbing moments have been experienced.
The balance of injuries leaves five transfers to the hospital, all of them for bruises, tumbles and injuries caused by the falls themselves. There have been no gorings and none of the injured are expected to suffer complications.
In total, during the eight confinements there have been 34 transfers to the Clínica Universitaria de Navarra; two of the wounded have been by bull horn.
Just before the alley, however, there was a chilling moment, which could have ended in drama, when a morlaco was about to hit a young woman on the head with an antler. He has not done it by a few centimeters and has only taken her ponytail. As a consequence, he has violently thrown her to the ground. The tragedy has threatened to appear in the last breath of the Sanfermines.
Fortunately, the last race of the Sanfermines has been a celebration for those who are passionate about this event. And for this they have had a luxury guest: the Miura. On this occasion, the Sevillian livestock arrived with six morlacos weighing between 565 and 635 kilos, with an average of 612 kilos.
The Miura have lived up to their fame. They have been fast, elegant and noble, in the sense that they have hardly thrown defeats and have continued forward in the most tense moments.
The herd has climbed compactly through Santo Domingo and there have been no incidents on the slope, beyond the innumerable falls.
The meaning of the confinement, however, has changed after overcoming Mercaderes. The herd has been divided in two, with the fighting bulls divided into two groups of three, and holes have been opened. With the bulls in the central lane of the street and leaving margins for withdrawals, spectacular races have once again taken place in Estafeta, perhaps the longest of all the fiestas.
There have also been some dangerous falls, although the waiters have known how to protect themselves in the fetal position and there have been no tragedies.
After the Telefónica curve, the confinement has become more dangerous. There have been very violent falls and the horns of the morlacos have grazed several runners. It is there, just before the alley, where the image of the day has been seen, with a horn grazing a girl's skull and then throwing her to the ground. It was just a scare, the last of the parties.
Before entering the bullring, there have been several shocking falls in the alley, although the Miura have followed their own. His legend has passed in a fleeting and unappealable way through the streets of Pamplona, and they say goodbye to eight days of confinement in which the fans have been able to enjoy. The party, meanwhile, hurries its last hours.
