The tragic event took place on January 7, according to the British newspaper Mirror. Apparently, one of the passengers on a Ryanair plane traveling between Malaga and Manchester felt unwell and had to undergo cardiopulmonary resuscitation at 38,000 feet above sea level. Despite efforts, he could not be saved and the man died in mid-flight.
The sudden death of the passenger, a male of British nationality, forced the plane to make an emergency landing in Bordeaux.
For its part, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has confirmed that the passenger who died was a British citizen and that his family is receiving support.
Despite the traumatic experience, Ryanair is not obliged to financially compensate the rest of the passengers for the diversion of their flight since it is a "medical emergency." The newspaper, which collects the testimony of several of the passengers on the aforementioned flight, points out that all passengers were offered accommodation and told that they could claim their own travel expenses from the hotel due to limited transportation options.
