Junts rescues its liberal profile to face a leftist Government

The national axis, with the defense of the three points of the agreement that Junts considers that ERC has breached in order to advance towards independence, will continue to be the center of the strategy after the departure of the Government. But along this line, the postconvergents are going to recover their socioeconomic profile, partially eclipsed in the coalition with ERC, with a more liberal accent and that they will confront a Government that they see as leaning to the left. From Junts it is considered that their departure from the Government, where they had seven ministries and the presence of the minister Gemma Ubasart, who went through Podemos, marks a much more leftist accent. At the moment, support for the Pera Aragonès budgets is not contemplated and it is doubted that it will present them.

The initiatives that JxCat had begun to work on in recent weeks precisely to mark its own profile in the socioeconomic field will be presented in Parliament. In this sense, the line worked by the former Minister of Justice, Lourdes Ciuró, will be followed to propose legislative changes that facilitate evictions in homes "with criminal occupation".

Likewise, the reform of the wealth tax will be considered. The former Minister Jaume Giró proposed a few days ago to increase the exempt minimum from 500,000 to 700,000 euros to maintain competition with other autonomies.

Precisely Giró went to the executive committee yesterday to ratify that he remains in this management body -he had said that he would leave it if he won the option of leaving the Government-, and so did all the ministers with representation in the management.

Despite the delicate moment that the formation is going through after the internal consultation and the decision of the militancy, from Junts it is considered that the result buries the possibility of forming a pro-independence civic list, with which the Catalan National Assembly (ANC) had warned . A possibility that he planned as a rejection of the coalition line.

In this sense, Junts will continue to ask Aragonès in the coming weeks to submit to a matter of confidence, stressing that he has lost the majority that made him president. This is the first step required to open, for the time being, other negotiations. And it will avoid entering the ERC bid for Junts to approve the budgets claiming that they have their seal. First, it is pointed out, that they present them if they can.

In these early stages after the Government's departure, Junts also has its sights set on the municipal elections and especially on the decision made by Xavier Trias regarding his candidacy in Barcelona. The former mayor had subordinated his Barcelona bet to Junts being in order and defended continuity in the Government. Despite the opposite result, the post-convergents are confident that Trias will step forward.
