WhatsApp opens the door to adding ads (but not in our inbox)

WhatsApp is the queen of instant messaging applications, installed on hundreds of millions of devices around the world. But since it became part of the Meta empire, there have been rumors about forms of payment and advertising that could radically change the user experience in the app.

The director of Whatsapp, Will Cathcart, has confirmed in the Brazilian media Folha de São Paulo that they are considering incorporating ads in certain spaces soon, although he rules out that advertising will flood users' inboxes, where all chats are displayed.

“There could be ads on channels or states. For example, channels may charge people to subscribe, they may be exclusive to paying members, or the owners may want to promote the channel,” Cathcart clarified.

In any case, the person in charge of Whatsapp has denied that ads are going to be added to the inbox as the Financial Times claimed: “We are not doing this or discussing it, we do not believe it is the correct way. “When people open their inbox, they don't want to see advertising,” he said.

In any case, what Cathcart does categorically assure is that Whatsapp will continue to be free despite rumors that Meta could be planning payment methods that would end up affecting all users of the application.

In this sense, Cathcart explains that they are working to offer more WhatsApp commercial possibilities for small and large companies and to make it easier to communicate with their customers without any limitations.
