More than 15,000 runners have already registered to participate in the Zurich Marató Barcelona 2024 on March 10. With nine weeks left until the 45th edition of this event, the Barcelona marathon already has the same numbers sold as the total number of participants in 2023, being the best registration record since 2019 and with the prospect of trying to reach 18,000 inscribed. A figure that has not been surpassed for more than five years, since the record number of participants was achieved in 2017 with more than 20,000 runners.
As happened last year, the organization of the Zurich Marató Barcelona also estimates that more than half of the runners will be international. The novelty, the premiere of a new, more central and faster circuit, with a reduction of 30 meters of positive slope compared to 2023, which passes through more than fifteen emblematic corners of Barcelona and which is one of the marathons with the fewest curves in the world. world. Thus, this year, the Marató will once again recover the high volume of participation, usual throughout the previous decade and before the pandemic.
Likewise, two of the new actions for 2024 of the Zurich Marató Barcelona still have the registration period open. On the one hand, the Marathon Masters: a loyalty program where those who have participated in five, must, fifteen, or twenty editions of the Zurich Marató Barcelona will be recognized starting in 2006, when the marathon changed organizer and was established The circuit is valid until 2023. Everyone who signs up for this program will be part of a Hall of Fame and will have more advantages over the rest of the participants.
On the other hand, there is Hotspots, an initiative aimed at all entities, clubs, gangs, groups or groups that want to have visibility and participate in the Zurich Marató Barcelona party. In this 2024 edition, the quantity and quality of the entertainment points of the new circuit will increase, making them more culturally diverse. Subsequently, through a survey and social networks, the best Hot Spot (animation point) will be chosen and this will be rewarded with a financial contribution.
In addition, the 45th Zurich Marató Barcelona will also be the 46th Catalan Marathon Championship. The organization and the Federació Catalana d'Atletisme have reached an agreement so that the massive event held in the Catalan capital will also be the Catalan championship of the distance of 42.195 km in 2024.
This year, the Catalan Marathon Championship is again held within the framework of the Barcelona marathon after 15 years. The last time was on March 1, 2009, where Roger Roca and Anna Rosa took the gold medal in the Catalan arena.
