Spain was eliminated from the United Cup in the group stage after losing to Poland in the decisive mixed doubles match played by Alejandro Davidovich and Sara Sorribes from Malaga against Hubert Hurkacz and Iga Swiatek.
The first match of the series was won by Davidovich against Hurkacz, number nine in the ATP ranking, by 3-6, 6-3 and 6-4 and the second was lost by Sorribes against the favorite Swiatek, number one in the WTA ranking, by 6- 2 and 6-1. In this way everything would be resolved in the mixed doubles that the Polish couple won by a resounding 6-0 and 6-0 without giving the Spanish any options at the RAC Arena in Perth (Australia).
With this defeat, Spain finishes second in Group A, behind Poland and ahead of Brazil, whom it beat on the first day. Even so, it is eliminated because only the group winners access the quarterfinals along with the two best runners-up, something that Spain cannot achieve as other countries such as Norway or China have a better balance.
