Peter Sagan begins his path to win gold at the 2024 Olympic Games

The Slovakian Peter Sagan, triple world champion on the road, winner of 12 stages in the Tour and classics such as Paris-Roubaix and Tour of Flanders, confirmed that he will channel his cycling career into the mountain bike modality, with the idea of participate in the Paris Olympic Games, an event that I would prepare for including some road tests.

Sagan, 33, who last night collected the Lifetime award for his successful career at the Flamenco Cycling Gala, recalled that he is not a retired cyclist, but rather stopped his career as a professional road rider to compete in the mountain bike category.

The Slovak star, with 121 victories under his belt, announced his intention to change from road cycling to mountain biking last January during the Vuelta a San Juan, in Argentina, aiming for next summer's Olympic goal in Paris.

A decision that will force Sagan to change his training, in which he plans to include the road modality by participating in some races.

"Mountain races are shorter than road races and on the bike you need a different type of effort. That's why my training is completely different from previous years," explains Sagan in Sporza.

In 2024 some "small" road races may have the presence of one of the best runners in history.

"If possible I will do some small road races in preparation for mountain biking, but no WorldTour races," he said. At the moment the Slovak champion has not revealed with which team he will compete in the road races.
