David Valero gives up the number one in the UCI ranking just before the World Championship

The rider of the BH Coloma Team, David Valero, has lost this Tuesday the number one in the world ranking of cross-country mountain bike, a position that he has held for more than ten months and that he cedes to the Swiss Nino Schurter a few days after competing the World Championship in Scotland.

The International Cycling Union (UCI) draws up a score ranking according to the results of a runner during a year, that is, between the end of July 2022 and this year.

This circumstance means that Valero has been penalized for the weeks in which he has decided to compete less, to prepare for the World Championship; Furthermore, international tests do not score the same as, for example, national championships, which was the last thing the Andalusian cyclist from BH won, two weeks ago.

David Valero became world number one on September 27, 2022, when he added 1,962 points, boosted by his silver medal in the World Championship; he since then has scored points on several occasions to a "peak" of 2,054 points this year.

But from that score it went down, especially in recent weeks for not competing at an international level, with which it has remained at 1,534 points, after losing more than 251 in one week, and has been advanced by the Swiss Nino Schurter, from the Scott team, with 1,697 points.

Behind Valero is Frenchman Jordan Sarrou (BMC) with 1,436; and Swiss Lars Foster (Maxon) with 1,397 points.

In just ten days, Valero will face the World Championship in Scotland, which he arrives at "without giving much importance to this matter, because I already knew what was going to happen" and with the idea that "it is an honor to reach a World Cup in the top of the world rankings.
