Benoit Paire stars in a new controversy in the Malaga Challenger

Benoit Paire starred in an unpleasant spectacle yesterday in the round of 32 of the ATP 125 Málaga Open against Pedro Martínez. The young Valencian tennis player suffered a rude attack on the other side of the net by his rival in the form of hitting balls outside the court. Paire also did not run for all the balls during the course of the match and showed disrespect to the public from the beginning of the match until he decided to withdraw from the match, when he lost 6-0 and 4-2.

The French player, who reached number 18 in the ATP ranking, has recently shown his discontent with tennis on more than one occasion. The player from Avignon had lost his enthusiasm for sport as a result of his problems with alcohol, recognizing that he needed the help of specialists: "I'm going to a psychologist and a hypnotist. I'm going because I don't feel happy with my life at the moment. "It is difficult to handle this when you are on the court and that is why I decided to go to experts. I had never felt that I needed it but I couldn't do it alone," he declared in June after losing in the first round of Wimbledon.

Benoit Paire is currently ranked 330th in the ATP rankings and is being forced to play Challenger tournaments to try to climb positions in the general classification that will allow him to compete in higher category championships. The tennis player was getting a good feeling on the court, when a week ago he debuted with victory in the Alicante Ferrero Challenger against Daniel Cukierman. In addition, this season he was proclaimed champion of the Challenger ATP of Puerto Vallarta and San Benedetetto del Tronto: in the latter he surpassed Richard Gasquet, the 60th best racket in the world. However, this latest outburst in Malaga once again places Paire in the media spotlight, but not because of the tennis he plays.

The Málaga Open 2023 has five top-100 players and Spanish tennis players of the stature of Roberto Bautista and Pablo Carreño, who have received a wildcard to play in the tournament, as well as Roberto Carballés, Bernabé Zapata, Albert Ramos, Pedro Martínez Portero, Pablo Llamas and Alejandro Moro who comes from the previous phase.
