After proclaiming himself champion of the Indian Wells on March 20, Carlos Alcaraz is on everyone's lips. The last to praise the Spaniard was the British Andy Murray, who after losing in his debut at the Miami Masters against the Serbian Dusan Lajovic (6-4, 7-5), I do not hesitate to praise the man from El Plamar .
The Briton said Alcaraz has all the attributes to stay at the top of men's tennis for as long as he wants and believes he will stay fit enough to continue playing in the style that took him to the top of the rankings.
The Spaniard, who after winning the US Open in September became the youngest player to top the world rankings at 19, is now preparing to defend his title at the Miami Open. "He has an excellent game, a complete game that I think will translate well on all surfaces," Murray said.
"He's not the biggest, but he has a powerful serve. He's an incredible player, a great athlete. He has a lot of variety," he said. "I know from experience that it's a bit easier to play like this when you're 18 or 19 and there are no scars. I hope he keeps that style of play because it's exciting to watch," added the former world number 1.
Murray also said fans shouldn't overload Alcaraz with expectations. "I know a lot of people now expect everyone to win more than 20 Grand Slams, like that's normal. I wouldn't predict that for anybody," he commented. "I imagine he will be at the top of the game as long as he wants to play," he concluded.
Both players have faced each other twice, with a balance of one victory for each. In Indian Wells he won the British 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, while in Vienna the Spanish triumphed 6-3, 6-4.
