The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has announced that a new Atlantic storm is approaching the Peninsula, with a forecast to impact on Wednesday of next week, which represents the third major meteorological phenomenon of this type in the month of March.
Although there will be a brief and welcome period of quiet on Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures rising and cloud cover decreasing, the agency has warned of a major change in weather conditions mid-week.
This alteration will manifest itself with "precipitation in large areas", although it will be less likely in the Mediterranean area. The impact is expected to be especially pronounced in the northwest third, especially in western Galicia, where rainfall could be more intense. In addition, light rains in the form of snow are expected in the Pyrenees. The thermometers, according to Aemet, will register a general increase in maximum temperatures throughout the Peninsula, marking a more pronounced rise than usual for the time.
The Aemet has also highlighted on its official blog that, before this phenomenon, there will be a brief period of climatic stabilization. Monday and Tuesday, prior to the arrival of the storm, will be characterized by a decrease in cloudiness and a rise in temperatures, although precipitation during these days is not completely ruled out. Specifically, weaker rains are expected in the north, with snowfall in the mountains located between 1,000 and 1,400 meters above sea level.
Another relevant factor will be the wind, which from Wednesday will blow with a predominance of south and west components. Thus, intervals of strong wind are expected on the coasts of Galicia and Almería, as well as very strong gusts in mountain areas.
Finally, with regard to the Canary archipelago, Aemet has predicted milder conditions. The wind will blow lightly with a predominance of easterly components. The skies will remain slightly cloudy or clear, accompanied by an increase in temperatures.
