The Aemet activates the yellow warning in these communities due to the arrival of Storm Irene

The Atlantic storm Irene will leave abundant cloudiness this Tuesday with rainfall affecting most of the Peninsula, generally weak and occasional. The rains will be more abundant in the west of Galicia and the Central system, while they will be less likely in the eastern third, without being expected on the coasts of the Levant, according to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

Wind from the south and west is also expected in almost the entire country, with strong intervals and very strong gusts in the Canary Islands and tending to intensify in the Peninsula, also reaching strong intervals in the northwest third.

The strong gusts of wind left by Storm Irene have forced Aemet to activate the yellow warning in up to eight autonomous communities: Andalusia, Asturias, Cantabria, Castilla y León, Navarra, La Rioja, Extremadura and Galicia, in these last two as well. They will have an alert for heavy rains.

In the Canary Islands, rainfall will be very heavy and persistent in local areas of the northwest. In addition, the passage of a front will leave cloudy or overcast skies, with rain in the western islands, which could become heavy and persistent in La Palma and Tenerife, although they will subside throughout the day.

Precipitation will be abundant in the west of Galicia and the Central system. At the end of the day, they will intensify in the west of the peninsula and may be accompanied by storms, while snowfall is not ruled out in the Pyrenees above 1800/2000 meters, according to the agency's forecast.

Morning fog banks are expected in much of the mountain areas of the Peninsula and in depressions in the northeast, and may be persistent around the Central and Iberian systems and the Cantabrian mountain range.

The Aemet expects a day without major changes in temperatures in general or with a slight rise. In many places, they will continue to be high for the time of year. The maximum temperature of 20 degrees will be exceeded in Alicante, Almería, Ceuta, Huelva, Jaén, Málaga, Melilla or Murcia. And the frosts will be restricted to the Pyrenees.
