More than 50,000 chickens have been charred to death due to a fire in a poultry farm in the Burgos town of Briviesca that occurred yesterday, Tuesday. The fire has also caused the loss of all the farm's ongoing production, which translates into a loss of thousands of euros. Fortunately, none of the company's 15 workers have suffered any injuries.
The Council of Chambers of Commerce of Castilla y León has expressed its regret, solidarity and support for the affected company, Granjas Sagredo, in a statement. The family business, owned by businessman José Sagredo, in turn, president of the Briviesca Chamber of Commerce and plenary session of the Council of Chambers of Commerce of Castilla y León, has been devastated by the flames.
The council has also taken the opportunity to highlight the coordinated intervention of the fire stations in the area and the rest of the specialized emergency personnel who continue today in the extinction work.
The mayor of Briviesca, José Solas, has also revealed that they have not had to report any personal injuries, although the materials are "substantial": "The fire affected an entire warehouse where the eggs were sorted," explains Solas. The causes of the fire are under investigation, the mayor noted, and until firefighters complete the extinguishing work, the damage cannot be fully assessed.
After the incident, PACMA has launched a harsh criticism on social networks, where they blame the consumption of meat in society: "This is what farms cause: the death of thousands of innocent exploited people. For the company it will only be economic losses. And what about? if you change your diet?" they point out in a tweet.
